Cancer Update #3

Today was my first visit to the Schar Cancer Center. Other then being stuck multiple times for the bloodwork it’s was a worthwhile visit. I met with my oncologist and over all the staff were helpful.
During my visit I learned that my cancer was further along then what we initially hoped. We’re sitting at Stage 3. I told the doctor I always imagined I’d perform on the number 1 stage.
He asked me to sit on the bench so he could do an exam. Remembering the previous exam two days ago I nervously asked him what type of exam ? He smiled and said not that kind and I let out a sigh of relief!
We discussed possible options for treatment. Nothing could be set in stone as we’re still awaiting the recent biopsies to come back. If a different result doesn’t come back then a simply surgery will no longer be enough. I would go through radiation & chemotherapy follow by an operation to remove the cancer and install the exterior bag while it heals followed by more chemotherapy.
He recommended I elect for the bag surgery now and I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d be able to use said bag to sneak in liquor to the bar . He spoke to the head surgeon on my team while I was writing this and gave me a call saying we’d wait on that. I’m happy for that as my kids like to give me firm hugs and that could become messy.
I go for an MRI tomorrow. Appointments are being scheduled with a nutritionist and several other specialists to make this transition as fluid as possible. Prescriptions were reloaded and we even talked about a medicinal card in the future. What this means is even though I don’t partake in recreational drugs now I can fail narcotic and THC urine screens at my PO’s office and there’s nothing he can do about it. #Winning.
Stage 3 Cancer is curable. My positive outlook is still unwavering. Yes, the road to recovery will be more strenuous but the end justifies the means. My abnormal nodes should respond to the radiation treatment. The new cancer they found is at an early stage and should do the same as the nodes. And after my surgery whenever someone asks me about chasing that bag I’ll have a shitty surprise for them.
