So the treatment has begun and it’s kicking my ass. Think Reginald Denny ass whooping. Think Martin Lawrence vs Tommy Hearns. Think the Fresh Prince vs Mike Tyson. This shit is vicious.
When I went in for the chemo dispenser hook up everything was fine. Then I headed to my first radiation appointment. I even went another 6 hours feeling as normal as stage 4 cancer would allow me to feel. Then the common symptoms kicked in.
Fatigue - I bought some army fatigues so I’d be prepared.
Nausea (& vomiting) - I think my years of drinking and dealing with the following mornings have assisted me in not puking.
Appetite Changes - I used to purposely avoid eating when I was going out drinking. 1) less interference of the alcohol getting to the blood stream which makes the evening more affordable. #BallingOnABudget. 2) Nothing in my stomach to throw up later. 3) Time to get this 6-pack back #Bars.
Diarrhea - Already had it from the colon cancer. Now I’ll be able to earn frequent flyer toilet miles.
Oral issues - such as difficulty swallowing. (Maybe some of you bitches have been on chemo all along.) No sores yet but the week is still young.
Chemo Brain - I had to put a lot of thought into this post as my mind is in a muddled state. Plus: I’m still smarter then most of the people I see daily. (It doesn’t matter that they are only children.)
Mood changes : I’m damn near bipolar over here. So I apologize in advance if I spaz out on anyone. Can’t wait to see what happens when the family comes to visit this weekend.
Changes in libido - may as well double down on the same effect the cancer was causing. My panini is strictly a pee pee pole now. Maybe we’ll get one last snow so it can be useful again.
Hearing Loss - This one’s not so bad. Now I can chose what I want to hear from my kids and ignore everything else .
Now the bad news. A small percentage of people can experience major side effects such as heart attacks and other detrimental life threatening issues from my brand of chemotherapy. After speaking with my cancer team this morning about the issues I’ve been having with the constant dosage they’ve instructed me to go to the ER for an EKG and other tests to hopefully weigh that out.
I rescheduled my radiation treatment today and am headed to the ER now. I’ll update this post in my story once everything has been completed. As always I continue to draw strength from all of you and thank you so much for your continued support.
